Who can get an account?

Any member of the Holy Cross community interested in working on a research project in the lab is welcome to an account.

What can (and can't) I do with an account?

You can log in to your personal account using any of the machines in the lab. See the summary of available applications on the lab home page. You can also connect to your account from anywhere on the internet using the secure shell protocol (ssh). (Speak to one of the lab volunteers for more information about using ssh to connect to your lab account.)

You cannot use services available only on the Holy Cross campus, such as printing: since the lab is exposed to the internet, the Holy Cross firewall sees the machines there as off campus.

How do I get an account?

First, review the lab's security requirements and prepare a secure password following the instructions summarized here. Then speak to the administrator responsible for creating new accounts (currently, Neel Smith: Fenwick 415; x2621; email address at holycross.edu: nsmith). Setting up and testing the account literally takes less than a minute.
